The Corn Moon
The Corn Moon is September’s full moon and tonight it will be a special one if you are lucky enough to see it.

There can be a bit of confusion with the name of September’s full moon as sometimes it is the Harvest Moon, but that is actually the full moon nearest to the equinox the the next full moon is the Harvest Moon and this one is the Corn Moon.
Why Call It The Corn Moon?
Most of the common moon names come from the Native Americans and from North America. This moon is known as the Corn Moon as it occurs when they would traditionally have been harvesting the corn.

Other Names For The Corn Moon
The Corn moon is known by many other names. The Celtic, Anglo Saxon, and Old English names for this moon are the Harvest Moon, the Wine Moon, the Barley Moon, and the Song Moon.
It is also known as the Turning Leaves Moon, the Moose Moon, the Gourd Moon, the Nut Moon, the Fall Moon, the Falling Leaves Moon, the Moon of Brown Leaves, and the Yellow Leaf Moon.
When To See The Corn Moon
The Corn Moon will rise at around 7.30pm ish here in the UK, varying slightly depending on your location. This is a special one as it is a blood moon or a lunar eclipse which is where the earth blocks the light of the sun from getting to the moon and the shadow makes the moon look red.

Here in the UK we won’t actually see this from the start, the moon will rise here already in eclipse but we should be able to see it move out of the eclipse if the sky is clear enough.
Symbolism Of The Corn Moon
The Corn Moon symbolises reflection, spiritual connection, and letting go of what you no longer need, of releasing what no longer serves you, much like the leaves falling from the trees.
It is a time to slow down, to reflect on where you are and how far you have come so far this year, and to prepare for the colder months ahead.
Which reminds me, I need to stock up on the good tea!
I’ll be adding more to this post as and when I find any interesting little bits of information or when I think of something I’d like to add.
