Quirky & Intricate British Nature Art
Celebrating our inherent connection to nature through art and stories
Hello!
I have always been surrounded by nature, it is in my heart and in my soul, so it is only fitting that it is in my art too!
My aim for my work is for it to always be a celebration of the wild nature that can be found here in Britain, of the seasons, and of the connection to the land that we all share.
We are all a part of nature, not separate from it.
I also have a fascination with the stories that we, humans, have connected to nature over time. The symbolism and the folklore, the myths and the legends. These stories inspire me and I will often talk about them.
My original artworks are all created completely by hand using materials and techniques that have been used in one form or another for centuries.
My work has been chosen for juried exhibitions, private commissions, commissioned additions to the creative projects of others, album covers, and a couple of people have even had my work tattooed on them which is a very permanent and wonderful compliment!
It has also been sold to private collectors and customers all over the world.
What is Hæslwrid?
Hæslwrid is an old English word meaning Hazel thicket.
It is pretty much said how it looks, the “æ” is pronounced the same as the “a” in “hat”.
The Hazel symbolises creativity, inspiration, peace, communication, and knowledge.
It is a protector and marker of sacred spaces and it is one of the oldest plants in Europe.
In the Celtic tree calendar the month of Hazel falls over August, which happens to be my birthday, so to work under this name just felt right!
